KFC releases new smartphone in China

KFC, one of the world’s most famous fast food chains, recently launched its own smartphone in China. According to Forbes, Kentucky Fried Chicken has released its limited edition phone in order to mark the 30th anniversary of the chain’s existence in the country.

KFC has had a long and successful history in China. Although the firm got its start in the United States, it entered the Chinese market in 1987 after which it began to expand across the country. As of 2017 KFC has more than 5,000 locations across China and is one of the most powerful foreign brands in the country. With such achievements to its name it is only reasonable that the firm would want to celebrate its 30th Chinese anniversary with a special trinket.

KFC‘s special edition phone is one that it has made in collaboration with Chinese smartphone-maker Huawei. The phone is a special version of Huawei Enjoy 7 Plus. Its features include a 5.5-inch 720p display screen, a Snapdragon 435 SoC, a 12MP camera, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. The phone also has a distinctive red color and a laser-etched Colonel Sanders logo on it to set it apart. Its price according to CNBC, is 1,099 yuan ($161.91) per unit and it has been made available for sale from July 13.

The device also comes installed with some unique freebies .There are 10,000 “K dollars” (a digital currency used by KFC in China) pre-installed in it along with a music app that lets users create playlists and share them in the restaurant. All this makes the phone a memento most KFC fans would love to have. However, the phone will only be sold in China and as it is a limited edition only 5000 of these sets will be made available to the public.
